History: Humayun's Mausoleum is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the first grand-scale marvels to be built by the Gurkanis (Mughals) in the region of Hindustan. The mammoth structure was sponsored by Bega Begum - queen and chief consort of Humayun. Bega had architects and artisans imported from as far away as Persia and Arabia to honour her husband's fascination with Persian customs, art and architecture.
