History: Before the iconic Jeep was mass-produced by Willys Overland Motors and the Ford Motor Company as a standardised light combat vehicle, during World War II. The American Bantam Car Company was the one that had built the prototype - starting with the Bantam MK II and later the Bantam BRC. Inadequate resources and lack of manpower had prevented the company from mass producing, and thus Willy and Ford had stepped in to mass produce identical models, respectively known as the Willys MB Jeep and Ford GPW (Jeep). The models were light utility combat vehicles and capable of performing diverse tasks including pulling rail carriages. To know more, see the Farbound.Net story: Had to be a Jeep.Â
