History: This Greetings Card features a photoart representation of Edward Tuite Dalton. Born on the 17th of August in 1815 A.D., Dalton was an officer of the East India Company who went on to become a political agent and later the commissioner of what is today the Chota Nagpur province of Jharkhand, but was then a part of the Bengal Presidency. He was also a Major General in the Bengal Lancers, a cavalry unit of the British Indian Army. Dalton authored the 'Descriptive Ethnology of Bengal', the first comprehensive book of its kind to document the ancient tribes of India. For his long years of service, he was honoured with the Companion of the Order of the Star of India (CSI). In modern-day India, Dalton is fondly remembered as the 'Righteous and Just' commissioner.
