History: Kubera, the Vedic lord of wealth, has been traditionally portrayed with a nice round potbelly since the time of his creation at the hands of the master sculptors of Mathura. His origin is speculated to date back to the coming of the Aryan tribes of antiquity and sometimes even farther back in time. The sculpture in the photo comes from the 2nd century B.C. and is displayed inside the National Museum Delhi. It was originally produced in a brickish red colour by the artists of the Mathura School of Art. To learn more about Kubera, see the Farbound.Net story: The Pot-Bellied Lord of Wealth, on the Farbound.Net website.Â
