The Sumerians made extensive use of several types of wagons in battle including the one portrayed. These wagons were heavy and made out of wood, wicker and reeds. They came with round disk wheels and were pulled by teams of four onagers (wild asses ) or a mixed breed known as the Kungas – of onagers and domesticated asses. The Sumerian civilization is considered to be the oldest and flourished from 5500 to 1800 BC in Mesopotamia.
