History: This Greetings Card features an artistic presentation of Vinayak Damodar Savarkar. Born on the 28th of May in 1883 A.D., Savarkar was an Indian political activist, a patriot and a prolific writer. He was also a prominent member of the Hindu Mahasabha and advocated the need for India to have a strong Hindu identity and to be a Hindu nation. Among his many works, both political and reform-oriented, is the political literature, The First War of Indian Independence - which reinterpreted the Mutiny of 1857 A.D. as a war of freedom. His vision of gaining India's independence, sometimes by means of force, made him a firebrand in the eyes of the British India Government. In his autobiography, which he wrote under a pen name, Savarkar described himself as Veer (Brave).
