Defended by a handful of spitfires.

The biggest, baddest aerial conflict of World War II.

Motion picture: The Battle of Britain, 1969.
Directed by Guy Hamilton.

In the summer of 1940 as British Spitfires and Hurricanes squared off against Germany’s numerically superior force of Messcherschmitts and Stuka diver bombers, many over the world including the United States predicted the outcome to be the end of Great Britain in what would come to be known as the Battle of Britain – the biggest, aerial conflict of World War II, fought between two old rivals for close to a period of four months.

Filmed on a grand scale and noted for its accuracy for portraying events and the opposing sides with justice, the movie Battle of Britain is a spectacular cinematic vision of the conflict that turned out to be Britain’s finest hour and history’s only battle to be fought and won in the air.

Directed by Guy Hamilton (James Bond and Force Ten From Navarone) and starring an all star cast of yesteryear superstars including Robert Shaw, Michael Caine, Christopher Plummer, Harry Andrews, Curd Jurgens, Ralph Richardson, Trevor Howard, and Sir Laurence Olivier, the 132 minutes epic is a sweeping war classic that even in the age of the MiG and the Eurofighter can make you defy gravity with ease.
