History: This Digital Wallpaper features an AI art presentation of the Indo-Aryan god, Indra. In the Rigveda, the oldest canonical composition of the Indo-Aryan people, and who later were known as the Vedics, Indra is the most prominent and celebrated deity with the Rigveda alone comprising of 250 hymns addressed to him. In the canonical texts, Indra is not only the god of weather and war but also the king of the Devas. The text describes him as a large robust man with long hair and beard. His complexion is tawny, his hair and beard is the colour of a bright yellow sun. He rides a chariot pulled by tawny bay horses and his weapon of choice is a golden club/mace with spikes that he uses to either smash his opponents or produce lightning and thunder bolts. Furthermore, he is a hunter of the Varah (tusked wild boar) and has a huge appetite for roasted beef (oxen) and the Soma drink.
The Rigveda Indra (Parjanya) evolved out of Perkunos. Originating in the Pontic-Caspican steppes, Perkunos was a proto Indo-European thunder god. Perkunos was also the inspiration behind Odin, Thor, Perkunas, Taranis, Fjorgyn and Perun.
This art work is inspired by the description of Indra in the Rigveda. It shows Indra in a Rigveda era Indo-Aryan war chariot with spoked wheels hunting a Varaha (wild boar). What was initially simply the hunting of a wild boar was later transformed into the legend of Indra and Emusha, the Varaha. In the legend Indra slayed the cosmic boar by shooting it with an arrow. The legend describes Indra having shot the arrow from a great distance away in the cosmos and which had drilled through mountains to pierce the cosmic boar. In this endeavour Indra was helped by Vishnu who during the time of the Rigveda was a minor solar deity. In the art work, Vishnu is represented with the face of a solar deity in the sky and tunnel like holes in the mountains hint at the legend of Indra's arrow drilling through mountains to slay the boar.
