History: The destruction of the world is an event that is to be found in religions and cultures that sprouted, disappeared or endured throughout history. Likewise so in Vedic lore. Known as the Mahapralaya or the great destruction, the catastrophic event is said to bring about the demise of the current age of man referred to as the Kaliyug or the age of sin.
In some interpretations, the person to usher in the event is Kalki, the last avatar of Vishnu. Traditionally, Kalki has been portrayed as either a man astride a horse or artistically depicted as a horse. As can be seen in the historic painting of Kalki that comes from the region of Tiruchirappalli, Tami Nadu, created in 1825 AD.
