History: Humayun's Mausoleum is a UNESCO World Heritage site and one of the first architectural marvels to be built by the Gurkanis (Mughals) in the region of Hindustan. The mammoth structure was sponsored by the Persian lady, Bega Begum - queen and chief consort of the second Gurkani (Mughal) emperor, Nasir-ud-din-Muhammad Humayun. Bega had architects and artisans imported from as far away as Persia and Arabia to honour her husband's fascination with Persian customs, art and architecture. To know more about Humayun and Bega Begum browse the Farbound.Net story on the life of the second Gurkani (Mughal) emperor: Humayun the Merciful, on the Farbound.Net website.
