History: The name Pashmina is Persian in origin and largely accepted to mean garments made from wool - though some claim it to be soft gold (derived from the word Pashm). The name Cashmere was introduced by the British and is an old name for Kashmir. Where the Cashmere, Pashmina breed of goats was then to be found in great numbers. Imported in by the Nawabs and Maharajas who ruled the region. The oil on cardboard painting of a woman and a goat was created by Janis Tornyai - an acclaimed and widely recognized Hungarian artist (1869-1963).
